FOR THE GLUTTON’s
Churro French Toast
The city I grew up in, Winnipeg, has over 100 languages spoken. Culture is diverse, and celebrated (you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more culturally accepting city, we love new people!)
I digress. As a result, many of my good friends are South American, and Churros are a favourite dessert of theirs. However, I didn’t end up trying them until my move to Australia, randomly! I was instantly in love: deep fried goodness, cinnamon sugar, syrup-y dipping sauces…
The other morning I was wanting to get creative in the kitchen, and my sweet-tooth was definitely dominant. The below was the result..
**Disclaimer: these are very sweet, having something savoury on the side is recommended.
Ingredients:
The Toast
- 1 french roll
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tsp vanilla
- pinch cinnamon
- tiny pinch nutmeg
- 2 tbsp butter (regular, with salt!), melted
The Cinnamon Sugar
- 2 tbsp confectioner’s sugar
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- pinch salt
Cream Cheese Icing
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 tbsp cream cheese, room temp (easier to blend)
- 2 tbsp milk
- 2 tbsp confectioner’s sugar
Directions:
Cream Cheese Icing: Using a handmixer, blend cream cheese until soft. Add remaining ingredients, blend until smooth.
Cinnamon Sugar: Combine all ingredients
The Toast: Slice french roll to desired thickness. Combine remaining ingredients. Dip either side of bread into egg mixture. Fry over medium heat (with non-stick pan you won’t need any oil or butter to fry in) until golden on both sides.
Assembly: Once toast is fried, either dredge in cinnamon sugar or sprinkle over top. Drizzle icing on top, or serve on the side in a bowl for dipping!
THIS LOOKS PHENOMENAL. And although it won’t help me get beach body ready, I need to eat this by the plateful. SOON. haha!! Definitely gonna be recreating this!
